How it works

Your browser reads the audio

The clip is opened locally and the sound is pulled out of it, downmixed to a single channel. That is the only part of your file that goes anywhere.

The audio comes back as words

With a time on every word. That is what makes a caption light up in step with the voice instead of sliding a whole sentence at you.

The words are burned into the picture

Frame by frame, by your own machine, using the browser's video encoder. Out comes an mp4 you can post anywhere.

Why it can be free

Because the expensive half never happens here. Nobody is storing your video, sending it back down a wire, or holding it in a queue — your machine does that work, and it does it faster than a queue would. What is left is a minute of audio, and that is what the coin's creator fee covers.

What holding gets you

Longer files and a lane that is not competing with everybody. Never a better caption — the free rung uses the same renderer, the same styles and the same encoder, because a free tier made deliberately worse is not a free tier, it is a demo.

Where your video goes

The picture never leaves the browser you opened it in. It is decoded, drawn on and re-encoded by your own machine. There is no upload, no bucket, no queue and no copy — this site could not hand your footage to anybody, because it has never had it.

The audio is sent once, and only as audio. One channel, sixteen kilohertz, held in memory for the length of one request while it is turned into words, and never written to disk. If you would rather it went nowhere at all, the same page will run against a whisper server of your own — it is one environment variable.

No account, no sign-in, nothing to cancel. There is nowhere to type a password because there is nothing to log into. The wallet box is optional and read-only: it is checked against the chain to work out your rung, and it can do nothing else.
